TOPIC:  YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO GOD

BY T. O. BANSO

“What is man, that You should exalt him, that You should set Your heart on him, that You should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?” (Job 7:17-18 New King James Version).

God created human beings, including you in His image and after His likeness (Genesis 1:26). Every human being is, therefore, important to God. This truth is expressed clearly in different verses in the Bible.

Unfortunately, many people don’t know that they are important to God. Therefore, they look down on themselves. This could be because of what they are passing through in life, comparison with other people, ignorance, and so on. But your value before God has nothing to do with what you own or owe. It has nothing to do with what you have or lack. Your self-worth should not be based on your net worth.

This same wrong understanding makes them despise others also. But everyone is important to God. No soul is more important than the other no matter the sex, gender, tribe, colour, or race. God doesn’t describe you by your present circumstance but by His plan and purpose for your life.

That’s why God called Abraham a father of many nations when he had no child yet. “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations” (Genesis 17:4-5  New King James Version).

You are important to God. And this is not a truth or statement to make arrogant, pompous, or proud but rather sober. If human beings are not important to God, He wouldn’t have created us in His image. He wouldn’t have created man after He had created all things and handed over the Garden of Eden to Adam to manage on His behalf.  “Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it” (Genesis 2:15 New King James Version). Psalm 115:16 says, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men” (New King James Version).

You are important to God and He has an assignment for you on earth to do. Underscoring the importance of human beings to God, David said, “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him. For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:4-5 New King James Version). God crowned man with glory and honor, not with shame and dishonour. Man is important to God.

Though man is like a breath of air and his days are like a passing shadow, God still takes notice of man and cares for man. The writer of  Psalm 144 says, “LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow” (verses 3-4).

Anyone who understands that he is important to God by creation will not experience a lack of self-worth. When one becomes a new creature, this further enhances one’s estimation of one’s self-worth. The priceless blood of the Son of God shed on his behalf for the forgiveness of his sins would convince him that he is important to God. Ephesians 1:7 says we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Though every human being is important to God, salvation confers greater value on a human being. God gave His Best (Jesus Christ) to save mankind (John 3:16). If you are born again, you are a child of God (John 1:12; Galatians 4:7). You are of great value in the sight of God. He called you; He chose you; you belong to Him   (1 Peter 2:9-10). You are not a nobody. You are somebody to God! You are so precious to Him.

You may be a child of God but ignorance of who you are will never allow you to manifest who you truly are. The knowledge of who you are in God is very important for you to be who God has called you to be. Know who you are in God.

If you’re born again, the Bible says:

1. You are the redeemed of the Lord. You are redeemed with the blood of Jesus Christ and from the curse of the law (1 Peter 1:18-19; Galatians 3:13).

2. You have been made right with God – you are God’s righteousness in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21).

3. You have overcome the false prophets because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. Our faith defeats the world (1 John 5:4). You have also overcome the wicked one (1 John 2:13).

4. You are more than conquerors through Him who loved you (Romans 8:37).

5. You are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).

6. You are a child of the Most High (Psalm 82:6).

7. You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14).

8. You are a friend of Jesus if you do whatever He commands you (John 15:14-15). Don’t call Him, “Lord, Lord” and not do the things He says (Luke 8:46).

9. You are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:17). Don’t defile His temple.

10. You belong to Christ. Christ belongs to God (1 Corinthians 3:23).

11. You are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10).

These are just a few of who the Bible says you are if you are born again. If you are not born again, you are still important to God by virtue of being His creature. But you are not yet a child of God and you should. You should give your life to Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. You should not continue to be a sinner, living your life independent of God.

You are so important to God that He sent His only begotten Son to die for you. If you’re not important to God, He wouldn’t have done that for you. “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Romans 5:7-9 New King James Version).

Respond to the love of God. Surrender your life to Jesus Christ today. You are important to God. Don’t let anyone make you feel that you are nothing. Don’t let life’s challenges make you look down on yourself. Walk in this understanding that you are not a nonentity and live your life to please God. You are important to God.

TAKE ACTION!

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit you are a sinner and you cannot save yourself and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto you today. I know I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and resurrected the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like the palm tree and grow like the cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Father, thank You that I am important to You by virtue of creation and new creation. I am not a nonentity; I am important to God. Holy Spirit, help me to walk in this understanding that I am not a nonentity and live my life to please God.
