“So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time” (Galatians 6:9 New Living Translation).

There is a temptation to give up on what you’re doing or struggling to do and you can’t see the expected result or there is no help or support. There is the tendency to give up when you’re not sure if you’re making an impact. But you must never give up, no matter what, if you’re sure that what you’re doing is what God has asked you to do.

Don’t look at or look to human beings when you’re doing what God has asked you to do. Human beings won’t always encourage or support you. Even the people who’re benefitting from what you’re doing may not even tell you they’re being blessed or do anything to encourage you to continue.

Many people have been discouraged and quit because they’re looking to human beings for support – moral, financial, or material. They should have looked to God and let Him work out how the needed support or encouragement would come. Many have given up because they were not sure they were making any impact – no positive feedback. Never give up. Be faithful. Believe in God, who gave you the assignment.

Never give up. Whether or not people support you morally, financially, etc., keep doing what God has asked you to do.  “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9 New King James Version). The New Living Translation says, “So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.” Take note of the phrase “Don’t get discouraged and give up.”

2 Chronicles 15:7 says, “But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!” (New King James Version). Your labour is not in vain. Never give up. Paul said, “And so, since God in his mercy has given us this wonderful ministry, we never give up” (Colossians 4:1 New Living Translation).

Never give up. This is not limited to ministry. Never give up on that marriage, that child, that exam, that project, etc. Whatever God has asked you to do or you’re persuaded He wants you to do, don’t give up, despite the difficulties. Speaking about Abraham, the Bible says, “Still, he did not give up faith in the undertaking of God, but was made strong by faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:20 Bible in Basic English).

Jesus never gave up; He endured the cross and despised the shame. Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (New King James Version).

The New Living Translation renders verse 3 thus: “Think about all he endured when sinful people did such terrible things to him, so that you don’t become weary and give up.” Don’t give up. Be steadfast. Hebrews 10:35 says, “So do not give up your hope which will be greatly rewarded” (Bible in Basic English).

Don’t look to man; look to God for encouragement, support, help, etc. He determines how and when the encouragement, support, or help you need will come. “Fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10 New King James Version). Don’t fear; the Lord is with you. Don’t give up today only for your help to come tomorrow!

Never give up. Continue. He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). I’m not saying everything is or will be enjoyable, but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).

You may be currently feeling the heat but God will soon make you lie down in green pastures; He’ll lead you beside the still waters and restore your soul (Psalm 23:2-3). Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5).

Never give up. Don’t look to man for your reward; look to God. “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24 New King James Version).

If you feel like giving up, spend time in the Word of God. The Lord will speak to you and encourage you. “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4 New King James Version).

The Lord can use the lives of Bible characters or any verse in the Bible to comfort you and give you hope. You can also listen to the Word of God from your pastor or other servants of God either ministering to you physically or through recorded messages. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

Worship is another powerful way to defeat the spirit of despair. When it seems as if you are losing hope or you are feeling hopeless, worship the Lord. Sing a new song to Him. You may be struggling with it when you start but continue. The Holy Spirit will help you, and as you minister to the Lord, He will minister to you also.

In Acts 16:25, at midnight, Paul and Silas, who had been thrown into prison, were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. The Lord responded by causing a great earthquake which made the prison shake to its foundations. Consequently, all the doors flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! Worship the Lord and you won’t be a captive of your circumstance. Hopelessness will disappear.

Never stop praying. This is another thing you must do. Paul and Silas prayed and sang in the prison as we read earlier. Continuous prayer shows your faith in God. Luke 18:1 says, “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up” (New Living Translation). Did you see the phrase “never give up”? Never give up on prayer, believing God, or doing what God has called you to do.

Furthermore, whatever is your condition, sow seeds to others. This could be praying for someone, giving monetary or material things to another person, encouraging someone, or helping another person to achieve his/her goal. Don’t be obsessed with yourself. Go and bless another person or other persons.

You may have suffered a setback or failure, don’t quit because of that. Setback or failure is not peculiar to you. Many people have experienced the same and succeeded thereafter. Learn lessons from your setback or failure and continue to pursue what God has called you to do. Never give up!

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit you are a sinner and you cannot save yourself and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto you today. I know I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and resurrected the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like the palm tree and grow like the cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Holy Spirit, encourage me; don’t let me give up on my destiny, life-assignment, or whatever God asked me to do. Holy Spirit, help me not to get tired of doing good.  Don’t let me get discouraged and give up. Let me reap a harvest of blessings at the appropriate time. Father, the good work you have begun in me, complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
