Our time on earth is brief; the number of our days is already decided by you” (Job 14:5 Contemporary English Version).

Human beings have a limited number of years to live on earth. But after death, there is eternity, and eternity has no end. The psalmist says, “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom” (Psalm 90:12 New Living Translation). Note the phrase “the brevity of life.” No matter how advanced you are in age before you die, your life on earth is still brief.

Everyone should live conscious of the brevity of life and not live in pursuit of material things that he will leave behind when death comes. Some people’s death happens suddenly, and they don’t enjoy enough what they have lived their lives to gather. They leave their possessions unexpectedly. Job 14:5 says, “Our time on earth is brief; the number of our days is already decided by you” (Contemporary English Version). Again, note the phrase “Our time on earth is brief.” The New King James Version puts the verse this way: Since his days are determined, the number of his months is with You; You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass.”

Nobody knows when he will die. Some people die young, some in their middle age, and some at old age. Psalm 39:4 says, “LORD, how long will I live? When will I die? Tell me how soon my life will end” (Good News Translation).

You won’t live for eternity on this earth, as it is at present. An end will come one day, and you will ultimately give account to God. Everyone has an appointment with death and judgment. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27 New King James Version).

Live your life not the way unbelievers do, pursuing material things or wealth acquisition, but live in light of eternity. Nobody takes with him when he dies all that he has acquired on earth. We came into the world empty, and we shall return empty. The only thing that will matter is our relationship with God through Jesus Christ and how we have lived our lives.

Always acknowledge the emptiness of life on earth and consider eternity as you live and make every decision. Whoever neglects this is living for a different kind of eternity, which is eternity in hellfire. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power” (2 Thessalonians 1:9 New King James Version). But my focus is living for eternity with God, not the devil. Live in such a way that you will spend your eternity with God when you leave this earth.

Live for eternity. Set your heart on the things above. 1 Corinthians 7:31 says those who use this world should not misuse it or become attached to it, for the form of this world is passing away.. Hold loosely the things of this world and hold tightly to the word of life (Philippians 2:16a). English preacher, Agnes Maude Royden, said, “Learn to hold loosely all that is not eternal.” And, as 1 Timothy 1:19a says, we should cling tightly to our faith in Christ.

Let your focus not be on this earth but on heaven. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:1 New King James Version). The New Century Version says, Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.Note the phrase “aim at what is in heaven.” There is a difference between those who set their minds on what is in heaven and those who set their minds on what is on earth. Romans 8:5 says, For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit” (New King James Version).

Hebrews 9:28b talks about those who are eagerly waiting for Jesus. Are you one of them? Philippians 3:20-21 says,  For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself” (New King James Version).

Live for eternity. In 1 Peter 2:11-12, the Apostle Peter said,Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation” (New King James Version).

Think of and live for eternity, not this present world and its desires, which are passing away (1 John 2:17a). In 1 Corinthians 7:31b, Paul also said the form of this world was passing away. Only those who do the will of God will abide forever (1 John 2:17b). Live for eternity; live in such a way that you will spend eternity with God when you die.

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit that you are a sinner, and you cannot save yourself and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto You today. I know I am a sinner, and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and God raised Him on the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like a palm tree and grow like a cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Holy Spirit, help me not to live for the things of this world but for eternity. Help me to set my mind on things above, not on things on the earth. I shall hold loosely all that is not eternal in Jesus’ name. I shall live for eternity with God.
