TOPIC: GOD WILL KEEP YOU SAFE

BY T. O. BANSO

“The Lord will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe. He will protect you as you come and go now and forever” (Psalm 121:7-8 Good News Translation).

One of the promises of God in the Bible that believers should appropriate is that God will keep them safe. Divine protection is one of God’s promises to His children. In the world, evil is widespread, and every child of God must trust God for his/her safety or protection. This is very important considering that the best human security is not perfect.

The children of God must not put their trust in horses and chariots. David said in Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God” (New King James Version). Christians must not depend on human beings for protection. Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD”(King James Version). Even when there is the provision of security by humans by those in authority, organizations, or yourself, don’t take your eyes off God to protect you. Don’t ignore God for your protection. Put your trust in Him to keep you safe as He has promised in His Word. The same protection He promised Bible characters in the past is still valid today for His children. God will keep you safe.

God promised the Israelites in Deuteronomy 12:10, “When you cross the Jordan River, the Lord will let you occupy the land and live there. He will keep you safe from all your enemies, and you will live in peace” (Good News Translation). Note the phrase “He will keep you safe.” Apart from their unbelief and lack of faith in God, which made them suffer avoidable troubles, God kept His promise to keep them safe. Trust God to keep you safe.

God will keep you safe. Psalm 91:3 says, “He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases” (Good News Translation). Again, note the phrase “He will keep you safe.” That translation talks about hidden dangers. How do you protect yourself from dangers that you don’t know even exist? Only God can keep you safe from such dangers. Trust God to keep you safe from hidden dangers and diseases. The New King James Version renders Psalm 91:3 thus: “Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence” (New King James Version)

The Psalm continues in verses 4-8: “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked” (New King James Version).

The psalmist says further: “Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation” (verses 9-16 New King James Version).

This is a powerful psalm stating the promise of divine protection. Make sure that you key into God’s promises in this psalm as many people have done and have shared the testimonies of God’s protection. God kept them safe amid evil or danger.

God will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5b). He will keep you safe. He said, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you” (Isaiah 43:2 New King James Version).

God will keep you safe. Let your faith be in Him. Don’t listen to the words of fear of people that will paralyze you. Isaiah 8:12-13 says, “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.  The LORD of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, And let Him be your dread” (New King James Version). God will keep you safe.

Psalm 121:7-8 says, “The Lord will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe. He will protect you as you come and go now and forever” (Good News Translation). Did you see again the phrase “he will keep you safe”? God will keep you safe. Every child of God is the apple of His eye. He will keep you as the apple of His eye. David prayed, “Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me” (Psalm 17:8-9 New King James Version).

God will keep you safe. He will protect you and keep you alive (Psalm 41:2a). God will keep your foot from being caught (Proverbs 3:26). He will strengthen you and keep you from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3b). He will send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place He has prepared (Exodus 23:20). You will dwell safely and no one shall make you afraid (Ezekiel 34:28b).

God will keep you not only physically but also spiritually. Jesus Christ, in His priestly prayer in John 17, says in verse 11, “And now I am coming to you; I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world. Holy Father! Keep them safe by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one just as you and I are one” (Good News Translation). Note the phrase “Keep them safe by the power of your name.” God will keep you safe by the power of His name. He is the Almighty and His name is all-powerful. Whatever or whoever God keeps safe is safe. You are safe under His power. Jude 1:24 says God is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.

Therefore, stay under His control; live in His shelter. Verse 1 of Psalm 91, which I referred to earlier, says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (New King James Version). In order for God to keep you safe, dwell or live in His secret place or shelter. The Good News Translation renders verses 1-2 of Psalm 91 this way: “Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him, ‘You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust.” Whom do you go to for safety?

The Holy Spirit is your helper (John 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7). He will guide and lead you. Follow Him and don’t grieve Him. Ephesians 4:30 says, “And don’t make the Holy Spirit*sad. God gave you his Spirit as proof that you belong to him and that he will keep you safe until the day he makes you free” (Easy-to-Read Version). God will keep you safe. The phrase “until the day he makes you free,” in that scripture, refers to “the day of final redemption” (Complete Jewish Bible), “that day when salvation from sin will be complete” (The Living Bible), or the day “(of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin)” (The Amplified Bible).

God will keep you safe. Trust in Him.

TAKE ACTION!

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit that you are a sinner and you cannot save yourself and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto You today. I know I am a sinner and I cannot save myself.  I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and God raised Him on the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like a palm tree and grow like a cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Father, thank You for promising to keep me safe. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me and from my deadly enemies who surround me. I shall not grieve the Holy Spirit or make Him sad in Jesus’ name. Holy Spirit, keep me safe to the end.
