JANUARY 01, 2024

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8 New International Version).

It is common at the beginning of a New Year for religious leaders to come out with different prophecies or predictions for the year. They could be local or international, general or specific. They range from politics to the economy, security, and others. Sometimes there are contradictions that people begin to wonder if those who gave them heard from the same God.

Unfortunately, a few of the prophecies or predictions frighten some people who believe those who gave them. They expect the fulfilment of what they have said. In the past, most of these predictions failed. Even some of the good predictions never came to pass and those who built their lives on them were disappointed.

As usual, there are already prophecies or predictions about the New Year all over the media, especially social media. I don’t know the ones you have read or believe. I am not here to tell you those you should believe or not but to tell you to build your life on the Bible. The Word of God never fails. It will come to pass.

Don’t be afraid of any scary prophecies or predictions about the New Year that you have heard or read. Let your faith be in God. The devil did not create 2024; God did. The devil has never made any day; he only tries to spoil each day. Psalm 118:24 says this is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. God made 2024; rejoice and be glad in it no matter the discouraging predictions or prophecies that may have been given.

Every year has its opportunities and challenges; it has its ups and downs. Sometimes people have mountain experiences and some other times, they have valley experiences. Trust God for the best in 2024. Moses told the Israelites, “But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end” (Deuteronomy 11:11-12 New International Version).

Moses was talking about the Promised Land or the Land of Canaan. Notice that Moses said the land was of mountains and valleys, not only valleys, and not only mountains. Nevertheless, Moses said that this land of mountains and valleys drank rain from heaven. He said God cared for the land; His eyes were continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.

There will be mountains and valleys in 2024. Nevertheless, God cares about the year and you. God’s eyes are continually on this year and you from the beginning of the year to its end! God is the God of both the mountains and the valleys. He will save in the valley just as He will save on the mountain. Whatever your situation or experience, trust in Him to save you this year.

In 1 Kings 20, the officials of the king of Aram said that the Israelites defeated them in battle because their God was the god of the hills and advised the king that if they fought the Israelites on the plains, they would defeat them (verse 23). But they were wrong. God is the God of the hills, valleys, and everywhere! 1 Kings 20:28 says, “The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord says: ‘Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the Lord’” (New International Version). When the two nations fought again, the Israelites defeated the Arameans. The living God cannot be limited or restricted to a place. He is the God of everywhere, not like the small gods that the idolaters worship.

Don’t be afraid of the year. Don’t be afraid of the valleys that may be in the year. God will go before you this year and be with you. “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron” (Isaiah 45:2 New King James Version). David said, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4 New International Version). God will not abandon you this year, whatever the situation.

God told Isaac in Genesis 26:3 to stay in the land of Gerar for a while and promised to be with him and bless him amid the famine in the land. God fulfilled His promise. “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy” (Genesis 26:12-13 New International Version). Isaac had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.

Later when Isaac was in Beersheba, God appeared to him in the night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham” (Genesis 26:24 New International Version). Note the phrase “I am with you.” Blessing and increase follow God’s presence with someone. Have faith that God is with you as you go this year because He has promised never to leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5b).

In Genesis 28:15, God told Jacob in a dream, “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you” (New International Version). Many years after, when He told Jacob to return to the land of his fathers and relatives, He again promised to be with him (Genesis 31:3). God fulfilled His promise, blessed Jacob on his journey, and brought him back safely.

Don’t be afraid. God will be with you and watch over you, too, this year. In Deuteronomy 31, Moses told the children of Israel not to be afraid of their enemies as God would cross over the Jordan ahead of them and destroy the nations before them. He said, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 New International Version). This should be your attitude this year, for God will go with you and will never leave you or forsake you. Moses said to Joshua in verse 8: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (New International Version).

God never tells those who believe in Him to be afraid of anything or anyone, except to have reverential fear for Him. He assured those in the Bible that He was with them. He still does the same today. He told Joshua, “No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5 New International Version). As God was with Moses, He was also with Joshua, and so He will be with you if you believe in Him.

In 1 Kings 8:57, Solomon, lessing the entire congregation of Israel, prayed, “May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us” (New International Version). God will go before you this year and be with you, as He was with those in the Bible.

Don’t be troubled by any prophecy or prediction – local or international. Let your faith be in the Word of God. It shall be to you according to what God has written. The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand;  the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (Psalm 121:5-8 New International Version). All shall be well with you in Jesus’ name. Happy New Year!

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit that you are a sinner and you cannot save yourself and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto You today. I know I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and God raised Him on the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like a palm tree and grow like a cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Father, thank You for bringing me into the year 2024. I hand over the year to You and will not be afraid of anything or anyone. I trust in You and believe that You will go before me and be with me this year. You will fulfil Your will for my life in Jesus’ name.
