“Thus says the LORD: ‘You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.’ Therefore they obeyed the words of the LORD, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam” (2 Chronicles 11:4 New King James Version).

The topic of this message is not whether God has the power to stop you or not. He is the Almighty God (Genesis 17:1).
Nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37). With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). The question is if you’ll allow Him to stop you.

Rehoboam, the last king of the united nation of Israel, had mobilized forces to quell a rebellion, which led to the division of the nation into two kingdoms. He ruled over the tribes of Judah and Benjamin plus the capital, Jerusalem. Jeroboam, a newly returned exile, ruled over ten tribes.

Rehoboam and his army were set to go to fight the ‘rebels’ when the LORD sent Prophet Shemaiah to stop them. He said  what happened was His doing. “Thus says the LORD: ‘You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.’ Therefore they obeyed the words of the LORD, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam” (2 Chronicles 11:4 New King James Version).

Rehoboam and his army obeyed God. In other words, he agreed to allow the breakaway of ten tribes, though he had provoked it by his folly. He rejected the Northern tribes’ request to reduce the heavy burden his father, Solomon, had put on them, as a condition to serve him. Rather, he declared that he would add to it.

Nevertheless, he allowed God to stop him from fighting at that time, though the Bible also says there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days (1 Kings 14:30).

Are there things that you’re struggling with God over, despite recognizing His voice? God knows the end from the beginning. If God says stop, even if it doesn’t make sense, you had better stop. There may be a problem ahead that God has seen, but you can’t see. It may not happen in two, five or ten years. Listen to God.

A man of God wrote that when he was 19 years old, he fell in love. But one night in his prayer room, he wept over the relationship and heard the Holy Spirit telling him clearly, “I do not want you in this relationship. End it.” He ended it. His college professors confirmed it was a wise decision.

However, three weeks later, he went back to the same relationship. Unfortunately, thirteen years later, the marriage ended in divorce. Standing on the courthouse steps, after the divorce proceedings, he was reminded by the Holy Spirit, “I gave you the instruction over thirteen years ago.” He shared his painful personal experience for others to learn from. Can God stop you? Can He stop you from going on with that relationship, plan, project, etc?

Don’t be like Balaam whom God couldn’t stop from going to curse the Israelites. The LORD told him, “You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed” (Numbers 22:12 New King James Version). But within his heart, he still wanted to go so God allowed him to go but forbade him not to curse the Israelites. Although he couldn’t curse them, he taught their enemy, Balak, to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality (Revelation 2:14; Numbers 31:16).

Twenty-four thousand Israelites were killed in a plague to punish them for their sexual immorality with the Moabite women (Numbers 25:8). The Israelites later killed Balaam with the sword (Joshua 13:22).

As regards that business, trip, etc., can God stop you? Will you obey His voice in the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and other channels of divine communication? Can God stop you and save you from future regrets and pain? Sometimes, the price of disobedience could be death! Can God stop you?

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit that you are a sinner and you cannot save yourself and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto You today. I know I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and resurrected the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like the palm tree and grow like the cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Father, stop me, and I’ll stop. Let Your will be done in my life. Deliver me from me. Let me not pursue what will lead to my destruction or harm me. Holy Spirit, I will cooperate with You and listen to You so that I can fulfil the purpose of God for my life.
