“I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land” (Exodus 23:29-30 New King James Version).

As the adage goes, “Rome was not built in a day.” Don’t be discouraged by your little progress in life. Don’t despise the day of small things (Zechariah 4:10). Thank God, and continue what you are doing, focused on achieving your goal (s).

When God created the heaven and the earth, He could have done everything in one day because He is the Almighty God, but He didn’t. The work of creation took Him six days; He created different things each day. In six days, He made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day (Genesis 2:1-2; Exodus 20:11; 31:17). God made progress each day until He finished the work of creation. Don’t despise the little progress you make in life.

God told the children of Israel they would not possess the land of Canaan at once; it would be gradually – little by little. “I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land” (Exodus 23:29-30 New King James Version). Note the phrase “Little by little.” According to an adage, “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.”

Deuteronomy 7:22 also refers to God driving out the inhabitants of the Land of Canaan little by little: “And the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you” (New King James Version).

Although the latter part of verse 21 says the great and awesome God was among the Israelites, He didn’t commit Himself to drive out the nations occupying the Land of Canaan at once so that the Israelites could possess it. He had the power to do it but He didn’t. God said in Habakkuk 2:3, “But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!” (Living Bible).

Many things in your life will not happen at once. They will unfold gradually. Most things that God would do in your life or will work through you to achieve will not all happen at once. They will happen little by little. Your progress may be baby steps, not big steps, but little progress is still progress. Be not discouraged by this. Appreciate the little progress you are making.

Don’t be like some people who gave up or became discouraged because of the little progress they were making. They stopped making more efforts which would have resulted in incremental promotion that would take them to the height God had destined for them. Appreciate the little progress you are making; don’t frustrate yourself. Little progress leads to big progress. Little drops of water make the mighty ocean.

Don’t kill yourself with over-ambition. Don’t think that you can become a phenomenal success overnight. Some people aspire to become wealthy through a single business transaction. It doesn’t always happen this way. Proverbs 13:11 says, “Money wrongly gained will disappear bit by bit; money earned little by little will grow and grow” (Contemporary English Version). Note the phrase “money earned little by little.” This is usually God’s way. But some people want sudden wealth and abandon God’s way for the devil’s way, which leads to destruction (Proverbs 14:12; 16:25). “A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished” (Proverbs 28:20 New King James Version).

Be motivated by the little progress you are making. Celebrate your small wins and continue to make more efforts towards your goal (s).  At a point, God will give you a breakthrough. But whatever happens, don’t be discouraged. Little by little, you will reach your goal.

Zechariah 4:8-10 says, “Another message came to me from the Lord.  He said, ‘Zerubbabel has laid the foundation of the Temple, and he will finish the building. When this happens, my people will know that it is I who sent you to them. They are disappointed because so little progress is being made. But they will see Zerubbabel continuing to build the Temple, and they will be glad’” (Good News Translation). Notice the phrase “little progress.” Don’t be disappointed because of little progress. Just continue to pursue your goal; you will succeed in Jesus’ name.

Don’t compare the little progress you are making with the great progress of some people. The graph of everybody’s progress is not the same. It varies from one person to the other. Paul said, “For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12 New King James Version). Avoid comparison. Stay in your lane.

Appreciate the little progress you make each time; don’t be discouraged. The Bible says in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Give thanks for your little progress and remain focused and diligent. Little progress will lead to big progress.

If you are not born again, you need to give your life to Jesus now. I urge you to take the following steps: *Admit that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself, and repent of your sins. *Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. *Renounce your past way of life – your relationship with the devil and his works. *Invite Jesus into your life. *As a mark of seriousness to mature in the faith, start attending a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church. There they will teach you how to grow in the Kingdom of God.

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto You today. I know I am a sinner, and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and God raised Him on the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You must join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like a palm tree and grow like a cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The Lord be with you.

PRAYER POINTS: Father, thank You for my little progress. Holy Spirit, help me continue taking small steps that will lead to big progress. Let me not be discouraged by the little progress I make. Lead me to the place God has destined for me. I shall succeed and not fail in Jesus’ name.
