TOPIC: TRUST IN THE LORD AT ALL TIMES

BY T. O. BANSO

“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us” (Psalm 62:8 New King James Version).

In Psalm 34:1, David says He will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in his mouth. The same David invites people in Psalm 62:8 to trust in the LORD at all times. “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us” (Psalm 62:8 New King James Version).

Take note of the phrase at all times in the two scriptures. To trust in the LORD means to have faith in Him, to depend on Him. You can never trust in the LORD too much.

Some people trust in the LORD only when they are in trouble and there are no other ways of escape for them. The LORD becomes only their last resort.

However, some people don’t trust in the LORD at all. They only trust in their wealth, their connections, their status, etc. They don’t even trust the in LORD when they are in trouble. They choose to be consumed by their troubles if there are no solutions than to put their trust in the LORD to deliver them. King Asa of Judah belonged to this category.

2 Chronicles 16:12-13 says, “In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa developed a serious foot disease. Even when the disease became life threatening, he did not seek the LORD’s help but sought help only from his physicians. So he died in the forty-first year of his reign” (New Living Translation).

Asa’s problem began three years earlier, in the thirty-sixth year of his reign. Instead of trusting in the LORD to give him victory over Israel, he went into a military alliance with Syria (2 Chronicles 16:1-5). When Hanani the seer delivered to him the rebuke of the LORD for relying on Ben-Hadad instead of the LORD, Asa was angry; he imprisoned Hanani (2 Chronicles 16:7-10).

Three years later, in his thirty-night year on the throne, he was afflicted with a disease in his feet yet he failed to seek God’s help. If God allows someone to be afflicted with a disease, which doctor will heal him? Asa’s sickness lasted two years and he died in his forty-first year on the throne.

Seeking medical help is not wrong. What is wrong is not to trust in the LORD but put your trust in doctors. Doctors will tell you they care only God cures. God is the healer; doctors only try their best. If God does not heal you, who will?

If you must go to the hospital, put your trust in the LORD as you go. Ask the LORD to lead you to the right hospital and to be attended to by the right doctor. Doctors, radiologists, nurses, laboratory scientists, and all health workers are human beings. They are not spirits. There are cases of wrong diagnoses, wrong prescriptions, negligence, and all forms of human errors. Trust in the LORD.

David said people should trust in the LORD at all times. This should be only when things are bad or when things are good. Trust in the LORD at all times. Trust Him always. Don’t trust your bank account, your wealth, your top-flight job, your position in society, and other things. All this can fail you and will fail you at some points in your life. Only the LORD cannot and will never fail. He doesn’t change (Malachi 3:6).

David says, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright” (Psalm 20:7-8 New King James Version).

The writer of Psalm 33 says, “The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory — for all its strength, it cannot save you” (verses 16-17 New Living Translation).

What chariot or horses do you trust in? Is it your job or career, your bank account, or your contacts? Is it your wealth or riches? Psalm 49:6-9 says, “They trust in their wealth and boast of great riches. Yet they cannot redeem themselves from death by paying a ransom to God. Redemption does not come so easily, for no one can ever pay enough to live forever and never see the grave” (New Living Translation).

According to Proverbs 11:28, he who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage. Don’t put your trust in your riches. They can be exhausted. Yes. There are rich people who are bankrupt today. Trust in the LORD at all times.

Hear Proverbs 23:5: “Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven” (New King James Version).

In Isaiah 36:13-22, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, mocked Judah for trusting in the LORD. However, the LORD honoured the trust of Hezekiah and his people in Him. Sennacherib was defeated. The angel of the LORD killed one hundred and eighty-five thousand Assyrian troops in their camp in one night!. The Assyrians woke up in the morning to find dead bodies everywhere.

“So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned home, and remained at Nineveh. 38 Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place” Isaiah 37:37-38 New King James Version).

Trust in the LORD at all times. Don’t put your trust in human beings. In verse 9 of Psalm 62, David says, “Surely men of low degree are just a breath, and men of high degree are a lie. In the balances they will go up. They are together lighter than a breath” (World English Bible).

The prophet Isaiah says, “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD!  Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, and will not call back His words, but will arise against the house of evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity” (Isaiah 31:1-2 New King James Version)

The prophet continues in verse 3: “Now the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together” (New King James Version).

Don’t put your trust in human beings. As the Bible says in Psalm 118:9 9, “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes” (New King James Version).

Trust in the LORD at all times, including the difficult times or times of trials. Let the times of trials not draw you away from the LORD but closer to Him. Tell Him your troubles.  David referred to this in our main text, Psalm 62:8: “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us” (New King James Version)

Pour your heart before the LORD. Pour out a prayer before Him (Isaiah 26:16). In Psalm 142:2, David says, “I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble” (New King James Version).

Hannah trusted in the LORD. She poured out her soul before Him. Her lips were moving but Eli heard no sound as she prayed to the LORD concerning her bareness.  Eli wrongly accused her of drunkenness.

However, Hannah replied, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now” (1 Samuel 1:15-16 (New King James Version)

God visited Hannah after then. He opened her womb. He will visit you, too, if you’ll pour out your heart before Him (Lamentation 2:19). Philippians  4:6-7  says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (New King James Version).

Trust in the LORD at all times. David gave this testimony: “Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; they trusted in You, and were not ashamed” (Psalm 22:4-5 New King James Version). You will not be ashamed too.

The last portion of Psalm 62:8 says, “God is refuge for us” (New King James Version). This follows what he said in verse 7, “In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God” (New King James Version).

In Psalm 61:3-4, David says, “For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings” (New King James Version).

No human being and no human possession truly qualify to be so described as your refuge. Trust in the LORD at all times because He only can be your refuge. “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9 New King James Version). Jesus Christ is the Person the sinners must flee to for refuge – salvation (Hebrews 6:18).  Only He can save from the wrath of God (Romans 5:9).

Trust in the LORD at all times. Trust in Him in prosperity and in adversity. “O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield” (Psalm 115:9 New King James Version). Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass (Psalm 37:5).

Trust in the LORD at all times. “Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:4 New King James Version).

Let nothing go to your head. Trust in the LORD at all times. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality” (Proverbs 3:5-8 New Living Translation).

TAKE ACTION!

Kindly say this prayer now: O Lord God, I come unto you today. I know I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save me and resurrected the third day. I repent of my sins and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I surrender my life to Jesus now and invite Him into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me and making me a child of God.

I believe you have said this prayer from your heart. Congratulations! You will need to join a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church in your area where they will teach you how to live your new life in Christ Jesus. I pray that you flourish like the palm tree and grow like the cedar of Lebanon. May you grow into Christ in all things and become all God wants you to be. I will be glad to hear from you. The LORD be with you.

PRAYER POINTS:  Father, I will trust in You at all times. You are my refuge and I will trust in You. I will not trust in chariots and horses but I will remember the name of the LORD. Holy Spirit, help me to abide in the LORD forever and trust in the shelter of His wings. Help me never to replace God with any man in my life.
